Beijing, 17 September (H.S.): Serbian tennis great Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he will compete in the upcoming China Open. The ATP 500 tournament will be held in Beijing from September 28 to October 6.
Djokovic announced through his Instagram Story on Wednesday, “I’m very happy to announce that I’m coming back to Beijing to play the China Open after many years.”
The 39-year-old Djokovic will return to the tournament after an 11-year absence. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, who recently won the US Open title, will also compete at the China Open.
Djokovic said, “I’m excited to be back and play in front of all of you at the National Tennis Center. It is one of the most beautiful places in tennis. I have many wonderful memories and major successes associated with this venue throughout my career.”
For Djokovic, the tournament will provide an opportunity to make a comeback following a disappointing campaign at the US Open. He suffered a surprise first-round defeat to Mariano Navone at the US Open. Following that loss, Djokovic dropped out of the ATP top 10 for the first time in eight years.
