New Delhi, 17 September (H.S.): Global markets are sending mixed signals on Thursday. US markets closed lower in the previous session, although Dow Jones futures are currently trading firmly. European markets remained in buying mode during the previous session, while Asian markets are witnessing mixed trading today.

Investors on Wall Street remained cautious during the previous session after the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in more than three years and signalled that further monetary tightening could follow. Concerns over a possible rise in inflation weighed on US market indices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 631.33 points, or 1.21 per cent, to close at 51,461.78.

Similarly, the S&P 500 Index declined 0.45 per cent to end the previous session at 7,551.81. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, closed with a marginal decline of 0.01 per cent at 25,978.42. At present, Dow Jones futures are trading 360.18 points, or 0.70 per cent, higher at 51,822.08.

European markets maintained a positive trend during the previous session. The FTSE Index gained 0.28 per cent to close at 10,688.47. Similarly, the CAC Index jumped 0.62 per cent to end the session at 8,140.59. The DAX Index advanced 135.47 points, or 0.53 per cent, to close at 25,537.75.

Asian markets are witnessing mixed trading today. Of the nine major Asian markets, six indices are trading in positive territory, while three are trading in the red. The Hang Seng Index is down 206.78 points, or 0.84 per cent, at 24,507. Similarly, the Shanghai Composite Index has declined 0.36 per cent to 3,877.46. The Jakarta Composite Index has also fallen 0.12 per cent to 6,429.17.

On the other hand, GIFT Nifty is trading 0.11 per cent higher at 23,292.50. The Nikkei Index has risen 369 points, or 0.57 per cent, to 64,292. The Taiwan Weighted Index is witnessing a strong rally and is currently up 605.33 points, or 1.30 per cent, at 46,454.23.

The SET Composite Index has also posted a strong gain today, rising 0.88 per cent to 1,576.67. In addition, the KOSPI Index is trading 0.40 per cent higher at 6,745.11, while the Straits Times Index is showing a marginal gain of 0.03 per cent at 5,651.70.
