Gorakhpur, 16 Sept (HS): In the district of Gorakhpur, at

the program organized for the inauguration of the IMA Charitable Blood Center, UP

CM said, “Blood donation is a symbol of compassion. In Gorakhpur, the Indian

Medical Association (IMA) is serving the public, and the operation of the Blood

Bank is one of its important links. Unprecedented changes have come to the

field of health.We are witnessing a new Gorakhpur, a new UP, a new India. The

number of MBBS seats in the state has increased; what was previously 4,600 is

now more than 13,500.”

Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is on a

two-day visit to his home constituency of Gorakhpur, where he will announce

development projects worth Rs 40 crore. He inaugurated the Indian Medical

Association (IMA) Charitable Blood Center in Buddh Vihar Part-C, Taramandal,

which works on a no-profit, no-loss premise to deliver safe and low-cost blood

to the needy. Overall, he is giving Gorakhpur residents 119 development

projects totaling Rs 40 crore. CM Yogi asked people to participate in voluntary

blood donation to close the supply-demand gap.

He thanked the local IMA unit for providing public health

services through this center and a free outpatient department (OPD). He said

that Gorakhpur today has sophisticated medical facilities such as AIIMS and BRD

Medical College.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called on Wednesday for more

efforts to promote voluntary blood donation and asked physicians to help reduce

the practice of professional blood donation, warning that it might lead to

deadly illnesses.

Speaking at the opening of an Indian Medical Association (IMA) charitable blood

center in Gorakhpur, Adityanath stated that despite improvements in medical

science and infrastructure, blood cannot be produced, and that voluntary

donation is a show of empathy to people in need.

Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a contemporary Kalyan Mandapam built at the cost of

Rs. 3.09 crore in the Urwan Nagar/Basharatpur region to give inexpensive space

for social and family functions for low- and middle-income households.

My appeal to you all is that we are unable to satisfy the

demand for blood with appropriate supplies. Doctors should utilize social media

channels at their level to encourage voluntary donations and publish periodic

calls, he suggested. He also advised doctors to report cases of professional

donors suffering from various ailments to the government and administration in

order to raise awareness about the practice. If professional donors suffering

from various diseases are not monitored, we may face a significant infection

catastrophe in the future, he warned, adding that decisive action is required

to maintain public trust in the medical profession and blood donation system.

Adityanath lauded the IMA's Gorakhpur unit for establishing

a charitable blood center and a free outpatient department, saying it

demonstrated the medical fraternity's social responsibilities. The CM stated

that he had previously visited IMA-run blood banks in Varanasi, Prayagraj, and

Bareilly and desired a comparable facility in Gorakhpur.

He also emphasized advancements in the region's healthcare infrastructure,

stating that Gorakhpur now has a BRD Medical College with super-specialty

capabilities and an AIIMS, and that medical colleges have been created in

numerous neighboring districts. Adityanath stated that the number of MBBS seats

in Uttar Pradesh has increased from around 4,600 to more than 13,500, while

postgraduate seats have doubled. He also cited prospective centers of

excellence in medical technology at IIT Kanpur and SGPGI Lucknow.

In a post on X, he mentioned, “The sacred abode of penance

of the great yogi Guru Shri Gorakhnath Ji, Gorakhpur, is continuously realizing

the resolve to expand public facilities alongside development and make citizen

life more convenient. In the same sequence, today in Gorakhpur, along with the

inauguration and foundation stone laying of 119 development projects costing Rs.

40 crore, the inauguration of the newly constructed grand 'Kalyan Mandapam'

will take place. These projects, which connect public aspirations to

development and development to public welfare, will provide new momentum to the

resolve of 'Developed Gorakhpur-Developed Uttar Pradesh'.”
