Agartala, 16 September (HS): In a major anti-drug operation, a joint team of Tripura Police, Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized around 50 kg of Yaba tablets, estimated to be nearly five lakh tablets, from North Tripura's Panisagar Naka area. The seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹40 crore in the international market.

According to Panisagar SDPO Kishlaya Shishodia, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs that a consignment of narcotics was being transported from Assam in a truck. The joint team intercepted the Tata truck, which was travelling towards Agartala, at the Panisagar Naka point.

During a detailed search conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, the officials detected a specially constructed concealed chamber inside the truck. The Yaba tablets had been hidden inside the secret compartment.

The truck driver was arrested and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also shared the seizure on social media and praised the security forces for the operation, describing it as a significant step towards the state's 'Nasha Mukt Tripura' campaign.-----------
