Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team after its impressive victory over Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup final.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs on Sunday, September 13, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to win the Asia Cup title. The victory marked India’s eighth Women’s Asia Cup championship.

Congratulating the team, PM Modi described the achievement as a proud moment for Indian cricket. He praised the players for their confidence, consistency and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

India posted 183 for five after a strong batting performance. Shafali Verma scored 68 runs, while Smriti Mandhana added 59. Their opening partnership gave India a strong start and helped set Sri Lanka a challenging target.

Sri Lanka struggled during the chase and were bowled out for 111 runs. Sree Charani took four wickets, while Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets to lead India’s bowling attack.

The victory also helped India avenge its defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final. The latest success further highlighted the growing strength of women’s cricket in the country.

PM Modi said the achievement would inspire millions of young people across India to take up sport, work hard and pursue excellence.
