New Delhi, 11 September (H.S.): The Delhi division team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested a notorious accused wanted in connection with 55 criminal cases as part of an ongoing drive against theft of passengers’ belongings. An iPhone 17 Pro Max mobile phone, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, was recovered from his possession.

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, said that on September 8, the Delhi division’s Theft of Passenger Belongings team was conducting a drive against criminals. During the operation, a suspicious person was apprehended on the railway tracks near Birla Siding, close to Sabzi Mandi railway station.

During questioning, he was identified as Saurabh alias Bunty, 23, son of Mukesh, a resident of Maharana Pratap Car Market in Karol Bagh, Delhi.

A search of the accused led to the recovery of an iPhone 17 Pro Max mobile phone, reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that he had stolen the phone from the Kirti Nagar area.

The RPF team subsequently informed the Kirti Nagar police station without delay and handed over the accused along with the recovered mobile phone, which was duly sealed, to the investigating officer concerned.

A verification of the accused’s criminal record revealed that a total of 55 criminal cases have been registered against him at various police stations across Delhi. The cases include theft, snatching, possession of stolen property, robbery, offences under the Arms Act, and offences registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to RPF officials, such action will help effectively curb the activities of criminals operating at railway stations, railway premises and adjoining areas, while also contributing to a reduction in incidents of theft of passengers’ belongings.
