New Delhi, 06 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared a Subhashitam on X, recalling the virtues of Mother Earth and reaffirming the nation's commitment to serving and protecting her. He highlighted that Mother Earth nurtures and sustains all forms of vegetation and medicinal plants.
The Prime Minister shared the Sanskrit verse:
Vishvasvam Mātaram Oshadhīnām Dhruvām Bhūmim Prithivīm Dharmaṇā Dhṛitām. Shivām Syonām Anu Charema Vishvahā.
The verse is taken from the renowned Bhumi Sukta of the Atharva Veda (Book 12, Hymn 1, Verse 17). It reflects profound reverence for Mother Earth while conveying a message of environmental conservation, harmony and the welfare of humanity.
In his post, Prime Minister Modi also shared the meaning of the verse, stating:
May Mother Earth, who gives birth to all kinds of noble vegetation and medicinal herbs, remain vast and steadfast. Let us always serve our motherland, which nurtures us with virtues such as knowledge, courage, truth and compassion, and blesses us with well-being, prosperity and the means for a fulfilling life.
The Prime Minister's message underscores the timeless values of respecting nature, preserving the environment and dedicating oneself to the service of the nation, drawing inspiration from India's ancient Vedic wisdom.
