New Delhi, 06 August (H.S.): Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across India's northeastern states over the coming week, while northwestern parts of the country are also likely to experience widespread heavy showers over the next five to six days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall, with isolated spells of heavy rain, across parts of Delhi-NCR between Friday morning and afternoon. The wet spell is expected to continue into the night. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to range between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius. Similar weather conditions are forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Heavy rainfall since Thursday morning has caused waterlogging in several parts of the national capital, leading to traffic congestion and disruptions in movement at multiple locations.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to persist over large parts of northwest and adjoining central India, as well as eastern and northeastern regions, during most days of the week.

Heavy rainfall is forecast over Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from August 9 to 12; Himachal Pradesh from August 6 to 12; Uttarakhand from August 7 to 12; Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on August 7; western Uttar Pradesh from August 9 to 10; eastern Uttar Pradesh from August 7 to 9; western Rajasthan from August 8 to 10; and eastern Rajasthan from August 10 to 11. Isolated places in eastern Rajasthan are also likely to receive very heavy rainfall between August 7 and 9.

Rainfall activity is also expected across parts of central India, including western Madhya Pradesh from August 10 to 12, eastern Madhya Pradesh from August 10 to 12, Vidarbha from August 7 to 10, and Chhattisgarh from August 8 to 10.

In eastern India, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Jharkhand on August 7 and 8; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 8 and 9; Gangetic West Bengal from August 7 to 9; Bihar from August 7 to 9; and Odisha from August 8 to 12.

The IMD has also forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated locations across all northeastern states during the next five to six days.

In western India, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra on August 7, the Gujarat region on August 9 and 10, and Saurashtra and Kutch on August 9.

Across southern Peninsular India, Lakshadweep, north interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, south interior Karnataka, and coastal Karnataka are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall over the next five days. Gusty winds are also expected across these regions during the next five to six days.

During the past 24 hours, very heavy rainfall ranging between 12 and 20 cm was recorded over eastern Rajasthan, Bihar, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, south interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Mizoram. Heavy rainfall between 7 and 11 cm was recorded in Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Assam, and Delhi.
