Colombo, 25 August (H.S.): Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has received an official reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct on the second day of the second Test against India. One demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record.

Jayasuriya was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a Level 1 offence relating to the inappropriate use of or damage to cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment or fixtures during an international match.

The incident occurred after Jayasuriya was dismissed off the final delivery of the second day on Monday. While walking back to the pavilion, he struck a boundary advertising board with his bat.

Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.

This was Jayasuriya’s first offence in the previous 24 months. For a Level 1 breach, the minimum sanction is an official reprimand, while the maximum penalty is a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
