Punjab Police and Army launch investigation; authorities yet to officially confirm grenade attackChandigarh, 21 August (H.S.): Three persons were injured in an explosion at a house in Jatta village near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar district late Thursday night. Police kept the area under security cover on Friday, while the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital.According to reports, two unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly threw a grenade towards a house in the border village. The explosion shattered windowpanes of the house and damaged a vehicle parked nearby. Three members of the family sustained injuries in the incident.A family member said he had returned home to give food to his brother when two motorcycle-borne men arrived with their faces covered. They allegedly threw an explosive object towards the house and fled immediately after the blast.Following the incident, teams of the Punjab Police and the Army reached the spot and began an investigation. Pieces suspected to be part of an explosive device and other material were recovered from the site.Shiromani Akali Dal leader Jodh Singh Samra raised concerns over the incident, saying that such an attack in a village located around one kilometre from the international border was a serious matter.SP Rural Ramandeep Singh said police were investigating the incident from all angles. He added that the exact cause and nature of the explosion would be established after the FSL report, following which further legal action would be taken.
