
Kolkata, 20 August (H.S.) : As many as 100 AMRIT pharmacies will be established across West Bengal to provide quality medicines and healthcare products at affordable prices. HLL Lifecare Limited, a Miniratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Government for the initiative.
The MoU was exchanged at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata in the presence of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister Anupriya Patel and other dignitaries. HLL Director (T&O) Benny Joseph exchanged the MoU with Narayan Nigam, Principal Secretary, Health, Government of West Bengal.
At present, six AMRIT pharmacies are operational in West Bengal. The proposed 100 new outlets will be established at government-run hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the state. The initiative is aimed at making essential medicines and medical products more accessible and affordable to patients.
As of August 15, 2026, a total of 280 AMRIT pharmacies are operational across 24 states and four Union Territories in the country. These outlets offer more than 6,500 medicines and healthcare products.
AMRIT, which stands for Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment, was launched in 2015. The initiative is implemented by HLL Lifecare Limited with the objective of making essential medicines and medical products available to patients at affordable prices and improving access to healthcare.
