Kolkata, 02 August (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday congratulated Tripura judoka Asmita Dey for winning the gold medal in the judo competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing her achievement as a historic milestone for Indian sport.

In a message posted on social media, Adhikari said Asmita Dey had become the first Indian woman judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, bringing pride to the nation.

The Chief Minister said the victory was not only a landmark achievement for Indian sports but also a matter of pride for the Bengali community. He noted that her success had created history by securing India's first gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.

Adhikari also praised Dey's determination, saying she displayed remarkable mental strength and dedication by achieving the feat despite recently suffering the loss of her father. He described her perseverance as an inspiration for the country's youth, particularly young women.

Extending his best wishes for her future, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that Asmita Dey would continue to excel on the international stage and bring further glory to India.
