
Mumbai, 18 Aug
(HS): The Bombay High Court has granted bail to the main accused in Social
Worker Narendra Dabholkar murder case Sachin Andure and also stayed the
punishment awarded to him of handing till death. The orders were pronounced on
Tuesday by the bench consisting Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice Ranjitsinh
Bhosale.
Pune Sessions
Court had awarded the capital punishment to Andure in 2013 in the case of
Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmools Samiti Founder Narendra Dabholkar. The case
awaiting justice has taken a new twist with the decision of the Bombay High
Court. Earlier another accused in the case Sharad Kalaskar was granted bail by
the Bombay High Court in April 2026, who was held guilty by the Pune Sessions
Court.
Dabholkar, who
was fighting against superstitions, was killed by two motorcycle riders on
August 20, 2013 in Pune when he was on a morning walk. The attackers fired
bullets on Dabholkar near Omkareshwar region near Ramji Shinde Bridge in Pune.
Dabhokar died in the attack which disturbed entire Maharashtra.
During the
investigation Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar were held guilty and a Special Court
in Pune has held them guilty and had awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs
5 lakh. CBI had called Dr Virendra Sinh Tawde as mastermind of the murder. However
the court released Tawde, Sachin Punalekar and Vikram Bhave for want of
adequate evidence again them.
The
investigation into the kingpin behind Dabholkar’ murder remain a mystery.
