POCSO Case Accused Who Fled Barpeta Held by Locals in Guwahati


Guwahati, 17 August (HS): A man wanted in a POCSO case registered in Barpeta was apprehended by local residents in the Beltola Tiniali area of Guwahati on Monday.

The accused, identified as Farooq Abdullah, was reportedly absconding from Barpeta and had come to Guwahati. Locals intercepted him at Beltola Tiniali and found several ATM cards in his possession before informing the police.

A team from Hatigaon Police Station subsequently reached the spot and took Abdullah into custody.

According to police, Abdullah is an accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at a police station in Barpeta. Police are also probing his suspected links to cybercrime, though his alleged involvement in any such activity has not yet been established.

Police are investigating how Abdullah reached Guwahati and are also examining the ATM cards recovered from him. He has been taken to Hatigaon Police Station for questioning.----------
