Bhubaneswar, 17 August (H.S.): Odisha witnessed widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Bhogorai in Baleshwar district recording the highest rainfall of 217 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The rainfall data recorded up to 8:30 am on August 17 showed extremely heavy rainfall at one station, very heavy rainfall at nine stations and heavy rainfall at 25 stations across the state.

Mayurbhanj recorded several of the highest rainfall figures. Karanjia received 164 mm, followed by Kusumi with 144 mm, Kaptipada 138 mm, Joshipur 135 mm, Sukruli 134 mm, Raruana 130 mm and Udala 125.8 mm.

Other notable rainfall was reported from Champua in Kendujhar district, which received 121.4 mm, while Batagaon in Sambalpur district recorded 120 mm.

The highest rainfall was concentrated in northern Odisha, particularly across Baleshwar and Mayurbhanj districts. Several stations in Kendujhar, Sambalpur, Balangir and Bhadrak also recorded significant rainfall.

The IMD is closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions over Odisha, with the widespread rainfall attributed to the prevailing weather system over the region.

Authorities and district administrations remain watchful, particularly in areas that have already experienced heavy rainfall, as further precipitation could affect local drainage, road connectivity and low-lying areas.
