Guwahati, 17 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the officer-in-charge of Laisong Police Station in Dima Hasao, Navjit Das, was allegedly killed in a planned attack by drug mafias. Chief Minister was addressing a Press Conference in Lok Sewa Bhavan on Monday.

The Chief Minister said police have reliable information in connection with the incident and a swift investigation is underway. He said the alleged killing of a police officer by drug mafias, who reportedly rammed him with a vehicle, highlights the magnitude of the challenge before the authorities in the fight against drugs.

Sarma said the alleged mastermind of the incident, Selimuddin Islam, has already been arrested. “We are fighting the drug menace from the front and will continue to do so,” the Chief Minister said.

Reacting separately to a death threat posted against him in a Facebook comment, Sarma said Assam Police would provide him full security. He added that such threats keep coming from time to time.---------
