Darwin, 16 August (H.S.): Sunday will go down as a golden day in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Inspired by outstanding bowling performances from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud, followed by composed batting from their openers, Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in the Darwin Test to register their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil.

Bangladesh had posted 426 in their first innings. Tanzid Hasan Tamim produced an impressive knock of 101 to register his maiden Test century. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 65.

Josh Hazlewood was Australia’s leading bowler with six wickets, but Bangladesh’s strong batting performance put the hosts under considerable pressure.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for just 198 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud led the attack with six wickets, while Ebadot Hossain claimed two. Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with 71.

Green’s Century Fails to Save Australia

Trailing by 228 runs after the first innings, Australia fought back in their second innings, with Cameron Green producing a determined century. Green scored 104, while Steve Smith added 44, but Bangladesh’s bowlers continued to apply pressure throughout the innings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz returned figures of 5/56, while Hasan Mahmud claimed 3/66 as Bangladesh dismissed Australia for 284. That left Bangladesh with a target of only 57 runs, which they chased comfortably.

Bangladesh Register Second Test Win Over Australia

Bangladesh had previously defeated Australia in a Test on home soil nine years ago, but this victory carries even greater significance as it came in Australia.

Bangladesh kept the hosts under sustained pressure throughout the match, producing an impressive all-round performance against one of the strongest Test sides in the world.

The victory also marks another high point in Bangladesh’s resurgence this year. After missing the T20 World Cup due to political reasons, the Bangladesh team has shown steady improvement since March and has now added a historic Test victory on Australian soil to its cricketing journey.
