Kolkata, 08 July (H.S.) : In a stark and definitive development following the police encounter of Prabhas Mandal, the prime suspect in the Baruipur minor rape and murder case, his mother, Sandhya Mandal, has completely disowned her deceased son. Condemning his actions, she stated that he had merely faced the consequences of the horrific crime he committed, and formally announced that neither she nor any member of the family would step forward to view his body or claim his remains.

The family was officially informed of the encounter in the early hours of Wednesday morning when police personnel arrived at their residence. According to Sandhya Mandal, the officers verified Prabhas's identity and subsequently delivered the news of his death in the late-night shootout. When the police questioned whether she wished to visit the hospital to see her son one last time, she flatly refused. She explicitly informed the authorities that she would not go to see his body, and made it clear that the family would completely abandon his remains, leaving no one to take custody of them.

Speaking on her son's lifestyle and character, a grieving yet resolute Sandhya Mandal revealed that Prabhas had long drifted away from the family's guidance. She stated that he was deeply pulled into drug addiction and routinely disregarded any advice or warnings given to him by his parents.

Reflecting on his sudden death in police custody, she expressed no sympathy, maintaining that his fate was a direct outcome of his own lawlessness and that he had ultimately reaped what he sowed.

While the mother's rejection underscores the severity of the allegations, the background of the case traces back to last Saturday, when a minor girl went missing from the Suryapur area of Baruipur. Her body was recovered the following day, stuffed inside a sack and dumped in a local pond. Prabhas Mandal was the first suspect arrested in connection with the gang-rape and murder, and it was his initial interrogation that originally led investigators to the victim's body.

Mandal was shot dead late Tuesday night during a crime scene reconstruction after he allegedly snatched an officer's firearm and opened fire in an attempt to escape. However, for his family, the legal and social ties were severed the moment his involvement in the brutal crime came to light, culminating in his mother's total public disownment of his memory.
