
Money demanded for withdrawal of complaint
Mumbai, 04 July (HS): The crime branch of Mumbai
Police caught rend handed four RTI (Right To Information) activist for
demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to withdraw complaint related to
alleged substandard work of gutter and dranage.
The four were arrested on Mumbai’s Dombiwali MIDC area.
Messers Ajwani Metcom Joint Venture is the contractor.
The four RTI activists had lodged a complaint against the company with MIDC
Executive Engineer. After lodging the complaint they contacted the company’s
representative and demanded Rs 15 lakh to withdraw the complaint.
The company’s supervisor informed the police about the
blackmailing. Police registered an
offence and arrested the four activists and presented them in Kalyan Court. The
court remanded them to police custody for five days.
The RTI activists were have been named as Dipesh
Lokhande, Rahul Mukadam, Vishal Jankar and Naresh Suryavanshi.
Police are investigation whether the accused had
earlier extracted money.
