Silchar (Assam), 11 July (HS): A youth was handed over to the police by members of the Bajrang Dal in Silchar after they alleged that he had lured a Hindu woman into a relationship by concealing his identity and later blackmailed her with private photographs and videos.
According to the allegations, the accused, identified as Andan Hussain Mazumdar alias Azmal, a resident of Sonabarighat in Silchar, allegedly befriended a Hindu woman from Guwahati through Instagram while posing as a Hindu. The woman claimed she ended the relationship after learning his actual identity.
The woman further alleged that the accused threatened to circulate her private photos and videos on social media and pressured her to marry him. Seeking help, she approached Bajrang Dal members in Silchar.
The organisation claimed that the accused attempted to force the woman into a vehicle, following which its members detained him and handed him over to Rangirkhari Police Outpost.
Bajrang Dal members demanded strict action against those involved in such alleged cases and urged the government to prevent incidents of blackmail targeting women. They also warned of launching an agitation if adequate action is not taken.
The allegations have been made by the woman and Bajrang Dal members. Police have taken the accused into custody and the matter is under investigation. No official statement from the accused or the police regarding the allegations was immediately available.---------
