
Kolkata, 06 June (H.S.) : A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall late Friday night caused extensive damage in the Pataram Jote village under the Kharibari block of Siliguri subdivision, officials said on Friday. At least 25 houses were reported damaged as strong winds uprooted trees and disrupted normal life in the area.
According to local residents, falling trees damaged tin roofs of kitchens in several homes, while other residential structures suffered significant roof damage. Villagers were forced to spend the night in fear and uncertainty due to the intensity of the storm.
The storm also brought down more than 10 electricity poles, plunging the entire village into darkness. Power supply disruptions added to the difficulties faced by residents throughout the night.
Following reports of the incident, local administration teams reached the affected area and launched relief and clearance operations from Saturday morning.
Authorities have assured all possible assistance to the affected families. Restoration of electricity and continued relief measures are currently underway, while residents await full normalcy in the village.
