NEW DELHI, June 4 (H.S.): Australia’s Test and One-Day International captain Pat Cummins has expressed confidence that he will be available for all of Australia’s major matches over the next 12 months, while acknowledging that maintaining continuity for the team’s premier fast-bowling trio throughout the packed schedule will be challenging.

Cummins recently returned to competitive cricket via the Indian Premier League after a prolonged absence due to a back injury. Following his comeback, he has provided positive indications regarding his fitness and recovery.

Speaking at a media event linked to Amazon Prime Video’s coverage of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Cummins said his fitness reports have returned normal and that his current focus is on preparing for Test cricket. He added that his next goal is to rebuild the ability to bowl long spells on consecutive days at full intensity.

Australia faces a demanding schedule over the next year, potentially featuring up to 21 Test matches. The calendar includes a home series against Bangladesh, a tour of South Africa, a tour of India, the Ashes series in England, home fixtures against New Zealand, the 150th Anniversary Test at Melbourne, and a possible World Test Championship final.

Cummins said he personally hopes to play all Test matches but noted that it would be unrealistic for the same three fast bowlers to feature consistently throughout such an extensive schedule.

Australia’s leading pace attack comprises Cummins alongside Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. During the previous Ashes series, injuries forced several changes, with players such as Scott Boland, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, and Brandon Doggett stepping in at various stages.

Cummins also suggested that prioritising Test cricket may require him to reduce his involvement in limited-overs formats. He indicated that his participation in the Big Bash League this summer appears less likely than before.

Commenting on Hazlewood’s return, Cummins expressed confidence in the fast bowler’s ability to handle regular Test cricket despite previous injury setbacks. He noted that Hazlewood’s strong comeback in the Indian Premier League reflects his continued value to the side.

Cummins added that rhythm is crucial for fast bowlers and said that seeing Hazlewood consistently back in action is a positive sign for the team.
