Guwahati, 28 June (HS): The Crime Investigation Department (CID), Assam, has unearthed an organised job scam racket that allegedly duped government job aspirants by promising recruitment in the Water Resources Department. Seven accused have been arrested so far in connection with the case.

According to CID, the accused lured unemployed youths by issuing forged appointment letters, fake government seals and fabricated recruitment notices in the name of the Water Resources Department. Victims were allegedly cheated of amounts ranging from thousands to several lakh rupees on the false promise of securing government jobs.

A case has been registered at CID Police Station as Case No. 04/25 under Sections 61(2), 318(4), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. During a series of operations, CID arrested seven accused persons, with the latest arrest being that of Gunamoni Baishya from Nalbari district on June 27.

CID Assam said the investigation is continuing to identify other individuals involved in the racket and trace the full extent of the fraud.

The department has urged the public to verify the authenticity of all government recruitment notifications only through official channels and cautioned job seekers against paying money in exchange for government employment.---------
