Chennai, 20 June (H.S.):Continuing its administrative reorganisation after assuming office last month, the Tamil Nadu government on Saturday carried out a fresh reshuffle of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, with the collectors of Madurai and Sivaganga districts among those transferred.
The latest exercise is part of a broader effort by the TVK-led government under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to streamline governance, strengthen key departments and improve the implementation of government programmes across the state.
Among the significant appointments, Jeyaseelan, who was serving as Joint Commissioner (Health) in the Greater Chennai Corporation, has been posted as Commissioner of the Tourism Department. The government is expected to focus on strengthening the tourism sector as a driver of economic growth and employment generation, making the posting an important one.
In another major change, Prabhushankar, Managing Director of the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), has been transferred and appointed Director of Geology and Mining. Mohan IAS, who previously headed the Geology and Mining Department, will take over as the new Managing Director of MTC.
At the district level, Nishanth Krishna has been shifted from Sivaganga and appointed Collector of Madurai district, while Aakash has been posted as the new Collector of Sivaganga. The transfers are expected to bring fresh administrative leadership to the two southern districts, both of which play a key role in the state’s development and governance initiatives.
The government has also transferred Ponmani IAS, Joint Commissioner in the Commercial Taxes Department, to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, which administers thousands of temples and religious institutions across Tamil Nadu.
The latest reshuffle comes weeks after the Vijay government undertook a major reorganisation of the police department, transferring 56 police officers to new assignments. Together, the changes reflect the administration’s continuing efforts to strengthen governance, improve departmental coordination and ensure efficient delivery of public services.
