Guwahati, 15 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a Facebook Live session, announced that the state government is moving ahead with plans to develop Dibrugarh as Assam’s second capital and has earmarked ₹500 crore for various development projects in the region.

The Chief Minister also outlined key infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of a new airport in Silchar and plans to transform Rupsi Airport into a major logistics hub to strengthen connectivity and economic growth in the state.

Highlighting employment generation, Dr. Sarma said preparations are underway to create nearly two lakh job opportunities for the youth in the coming period. He further stated that the government is working to strengthen higher education and healthcare infrastructure across Assam.

As part of these efforts, the establishment of new medical colleges in Hailakandi, Hojai, Bajali and Goalpara is progressing, which is expected to enhance access to quality medical education and healthcare services in the state.-----------
