Bhubaneswar, 10 June (H.S.): A three-day Odissi dance workshop under the guidance of renowned danseuse Padma Shri Madhavi Mudgal commenced at the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The workshop is being organized with the support of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture and will continue until June 12.

During the workshop, Madhavi Mudgal is imparting training in abhinaya (expressional dance) based on “Kha Champu,” a composition choreographed by legendary Odissi exponent Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. More than 50 Odissi dancers from different parts of the state are participating in the programme.

Participants described the opportunity to learn a composition created by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra under the direct mentorship of Madhavi Mudgal as a unique and enriching experience. Certificates will be awarded to all participants upon successful completion of the workshop.

The inaugural session was attended by noted Odissi dancer Sikata Das, Administrative Officer of the Odissi Research Centre Suchismita Mantri, and other officials of the institution.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of such training programmes in preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Odissi dance. They noted that workshops led by eminent gurus play a crucial role in nurturing young talent, deepening their understanding of classical dance traditions, and carrying forward Odisha’s vibrant cultural legacy.
