New Delhi, 09 May (H.S.): The Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) have completed 11 years of providing social security cover to citizens across the country. Under these schemes, enrollments have reached 58 crore (PMSBY), 27 crore (PMJJBY), and 9 crore (APY) so far.
The Ministry of Finance stated in a release on Saturday that these schemes were envisioned with the objective of providing affordable financial security to all, especially the deprived and weaker sections of society. These Jan Suraksha schemes were launched on May 9, 2015, and are providing insurance and pension cover to crores of citizens.
Included among the Government of India's flagship social security schemes, the objective of these three major schemes is to expand the scope of insurance and pension by providing citizens protection against life's uncertainties and promoting long-term financial stability. These three government-supported programs offer life insurance, accident coverage, and retirement pension facilities.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said regarding these schemes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the 'Jan Suraksha' schemes to provide insurance and pension benefits at low cost, which include PMJJBY, PMSBY, and APY.
She informed that more than 27 crore enrollments have been made under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, 58 crore under PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, and 9 crore under Atal Pension Yojana. Sitharaman stated that under the PMJJBY scheme, claims worth more than ₹21,500 crore have been settled for over 10.7 lakh families.
The Union Finance Minister said that under PMSBY, claims worth approximately ₹3,660 crore have been settled for over 1.84 lakh families. Sitharaman appreciated all stakeholders, including field officers of banks and insurance companies, whose dedicated efforts have made these schemes so successful.
On this occasion, Union Finance Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary said that the objective of these schemes is to provide insurance coverage and pension assistance to the extremely poor. A key focus of these schemes has been the digitization and simplification of the enrollment and claims process.
Chaudhary emphasized that with the launch of the online 'Jan Suraksha Portal', citizens can now easily register without having to visit bank branches or post offices. He stated that digitizing the claims process has ensured their swift settlement, enabling bereaved families to receive timely assistance when they need it the most.
