Deputy CM Inaugurates Power System Simulation Laboratory at OPTCL

Bhubaneswar, 04 May (H.S.): A state-of-the-art Power System Simulation Laboratory was inaugurated at the Power Training Centre (PTC), Chandaka, by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Monday. The facility has been set up by Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited to enhance technical capabilities in power system planning and grid management.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of OPTCL, along with senior officials and engineers.

The newly commissioned laboratory is equipped with advanced simulation tools designed to model complex grid scenarios, analyse load flow, study system stability, and simulate fault conditions in real time. Officials said the facility will play a crucial role in strengthening operational reliability and ensuring a resilient and efficient transmission network in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo highlighted the importance of a robust transmission system for Odisha’s development. He stated that the laboratory would empower engineers to anticipate challenges, optimise grid operations, and ensure uninterrupted quality power supply across sectors, including industries, agriculture, and households.

“The Power System Simulation Laboratory reflects our commitment to building a modern, reliable, and technology-driven power sector aligned with the vision of a developed Odisha,” he said.

CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma noted that the lab would serve as a centre of excellence for capacity building, research, and innovation in power system studies. He added that it would provide hands-on training to engineers of OPTCL and State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), support data-driven decision-making, and enhance preparedness for grid contingencies.

Among others present at the event were B. B. Mehta, Prasanta Kumar Pattanaik, Pradeep Kumar Dash, Srikanta Kumar Sahoo, and Anita Mahapatra, who delivered the vote of thanks.

Senior officials, engineers, and staff of OPTCL also attended the programme.
