Kolkata, 04 May (H.S.): Central forces were deployed outside the state secretariat Nabanna in West Bengal on Monday after trends in the Assembly elections indicated a clear majority for the BJP, officials said.
The secretariat complex was secured by central security personnel as a precautionary measure, they said.
According to sources, security at Nabanna was stepped up to safeguard important documents linked to alleged corruption cases in sectors such as education, ration distribution and recruitment, which are being probed by central agencies.
Meanwhile, Subir Saha, a member of a state government employees’ organisation, alleged that crucial files were being removed from Nabanna and other secretariats and directorates. He also claimed that attempts were being made to delete or destroy certain digital records, allegedly by some state government employees.
As per the latest trends released by the Election Commission, the BJP had won 11 seats and was leading in 186 constituencies. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) had won two seats and was ahead in 88. The Congress and Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party were leading in two seats each, while the CPI(M) and the All India Secular Front were ahead in one seat each.
There was no immediate response from the state government to the allegations.
