New Delhi, May 26 (HS): The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, an accused in a terror funding case, from June 25 to June 30 to enable him to attend the 40th-day ritual following the death of his father. A bench headed by Justice Pratibha M. Singh also directed him to surrender on June 2, in accordance with the conditions of the interim bail granted on May 18.

Earlier, on May 18, the court had granted interim bail to Engineer Rashid till June 2. His father had passed away on May 18 during treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). While granting interim bail, the High Court had imposed strict conditions.

The court had directed that two security personnel in plain clothes would remain with Engineer Rashid at all times during his interim bail period. The security personnel would accompany him from the time of his release from jail to his travel to Srinagar, and from Srinagar back to Delhi.

The court had further stated that during the interim bail period, he would be allowed to visit the cemetery and all places required as per religious customs related to funeral rites.

It had also directed that during the interim bail period, Engineer Rashid would meet only family members in the presence of the two security personnel. He was permitted to use only one mobile phone number, which had to be provided to the investigating officer.

The court further clarified that Engineer Rashid must not attempt to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence during the interim bail period.
