New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today shared a Sanskrit subhāṣita and highlighted the importance of balancing power with capability. He described the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests as a symbol of India’s steadfast resolve. The Prime Minister wrote on X that the tests conducted on May 11, 1998, demonstrated India’s willpower to the world and that, despite international pressure afterwards, India proved that no force could bend its resolve.
In his post he also shared the Sanskrit couplet, stating that power and the powerful are mutually dependent, and that Shiva without Shakti—and Shakti without Shiva—are both incomplete. He wrote: “एवं परस्परापेक्षा शक्तिशक्तिमतोः स्थिता । न शिवेन विना शक्तिर्न शक्त्या विना शिवः।।”
The Prime Minister explained that the aphorism means power and capability are complementary; just as Shiva is incomplete without Shakti and Shakti is incomplete without Shiva, achieving any objective requires both power and the prudent use of that power in balance.
