Bhubaneswar, 30 April (H.S.): A special session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, convened on Thursday to discuss the role of women in Indian democracy, witnessed uproarious scenes as Congress legislators raised the shocking Keonjhar skeleton case and staged a strong protest inside the House.
Soon after the session commenced, Congress MLAs entered the well of the House holding placards and drew attention to an alleged incident at Malliposi in Patna block of Keonjhar district, involving the Bank. According to allegations, after bank officials refused to release dues, a man was forced to bring the skeletal remains of his deceased sister to the bank as proof of her death, triggering outrage and embarrassment across the state.
Terming the incident as inhumane and a reflection of administrative apathy, Congress members questioned the role and sensitivity of the bank authorities. They raised slogans and attempted to corner the government over the issue.
The protest continued even during the Chief Minister’s address, leading to a tense atmosphere in the Assembly. Subsequently, Congress legislators staged a walkout over the same issue.
However, after some time, the protesting members returned to the House and resumed participation in the proceedings.
