Kolkata, 03 April (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would divide the state through the reorganisation of Assembly constituencies if it comes to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing an election rally at Harirampur in South Dinajpur district, Banerjee claimed that the BJP was hatching a plan to bifurcate West Bengal by rearranging Assembly seats and carving out a separate state by including certain areas from Bihar and parts of West Bengal.
She urged the people to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming elections to prevent such a development.
The Chief Minister also cautioned voters to remain alert during the two-phase Assembly elections scheduled later this month. She alleged that the BJP might attempt to prevent genuine voters from reaching polling booths by misusing the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed for election duty.
“There is no room for complacency. I urge my brothers and sisters to remain extremely vigilant,” she said.
Banerjee also praised the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police for arresting Mofakkarul Islam, the alleged mastermind behind the harassment of judicial officers at Kaliachak in Malda district. She noted that the CID arrested him even before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team reached the state to begin its probe.
The Chief Minister further accused the BJP of trying to influence voters by offering money through outsourced agencies. She warned people not to share their bank account details with anyone on such pretexts.
Later, while addressing another rally at Raiganj, Banerjee claimed that she had detailed information about the agencies allegedly engaged by the BJP to bring large amounts of cash into the state for distribution among voters.
“I will reveal everything at the appropriate time,” she added.
