Chennai, 25 April (H.S.): Thol. Thirumavalavan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), on Saturday expressed confidence that the DMK would return to power in Tamil Nadu, while noting that actor-politician Vijay’s vote share could significantly influence the State’s political landscape after the election results.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Thirumavalavan said the Assembly election was largely on expected lines and did not present any unusual trends. However, he raised concerns over what he described as discrepancies in the voter list, alleging that lakhs of votes had been removed during a special revision process.

“If these votes had not been removed, polling patterns would have remained similar to previous elections,” he said. At the same time, he pointed out that every election cycle typically sees an addition of around 20 lakh new voters, which contributes to an overall increase in voter turnout. “In this election too, around 20 to 25 lakh new voters have been added,” he noted.

Reiterating his political assessment, the VCK leader said the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance was poised for a decisive victory. “Our confidence comes from direct engagement with the people on the ground,” he added.

Responding to a question on his earlier remarks about the possibility of a hung Assembly, Thirumavalavan clarified that he had not predicted such an outcome. “I only said the political situation could change after the elections,” he said.

He emphasized that the extent of that change would depend largely on the vote share secured by Vijay, whose party has emerged as a new force in the State. “Let the results come. The post-election political dynamics will become clearer based on that,” he added.
