Bhubaneswar, 15 April (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts for Odisha, warning of heatwave conditions and thunderstorm activity over the next few days.

According to the IMD, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail from Today to April 18 across several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. These conditions are likely to impact daily life and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

For April 16 and 17, heatwave conditions are likely in districts such as Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur. At the same time, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are expected in parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore.

By April 18, light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in southern and central districts, including Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, which may bring some relief from the prevailing heat. However, thunderstorm activity with gusty winds is expected to continue.

The IMD further indicated that heatwave conditions may extend to districts like Sundergarh, Bargarh, and Angul in the coming days, with heat warnings likely to remain in place until April 21.
