Guwahati, 10 April (HS): The Assam Assembly elections held on Thursday recorded an impressive voter turnout of around 86%, marking a significant increase compared to previous elections. The polling process concluded successfully, with enthusiastic participation from all sections of society.

Addressing a press conference at the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati, Assam Pradesh BJP President Dilip Saikia said on Friday that this election witnessed a notable rise in participation from known voters, with the youth and women playing a crucial role in shaping the electoral process.

He highlighted that nearly 72 lakh voters were below the age of 30, out of which around 7 lakh exercised their franchise for the first time. Praising their sense of responsibility and enthusiasm, Saikia expressed gratitude to the young voters for actively contributing to the democratic process.

Saikia also underlined the significant participation of women voters, stating that such a large-scale involvement of women had not been witnessed in the state’s electoral history before. He remarked that the active role of women has further strengthened the democratic framework of Assam and extended his appreciation to them.

The BJP leader further noted the participation of senior citizens, mentioning that many voters above 85 years availed home voting facilities, while a large number of those above 60 years visited polling stations to cast their votes, reflecting strong democratic commitment.

He added that the high voter turnout, both in rural and urban areas, clearly indicates the people’s deep trust in democracy. Expressing confidence in the outcome, Saikia said that the BJP-led alliance is likely to secure more seats than expected and form the government in the state, with prospects of winning at least 25 additional seats.------------
