Dibrugarh (Assam), 01 April (HS): Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the ruling government in Assam, alleging that it does not want women to progress and has failed to deliver meaningful support through its welfare schemes.

Addressing an election rally at Mekipur Puja Field in Nazira, the Congress leader claimed that schemes like Arunodoi, aimed at women empowerment, have not provided real benefits to women. She alleged that despite such initiatives, women in the state continue to struggle without adequate financial or social support.

Campaigning in favour of Congress candidate Devabrata Saikia in Nazira, Priyanka Gandhi also addressed rallies in Khowang supporting AJP leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi and in Tingkhong for Congress candidate Bipul Gogoi. During her speeches, she made several strong remarks against the BJP-led government.

She stated that ensuring justice for Zubeen Garg is a responsibility and should not be politicised. Highlighting issues faced by tea garden workers, she alleged that their wages have not increased till date.

The Congress leader further accused the BJP government of causing a continuous rise in prices of essential commodities, adding that corruption has marked its tenure. Her remarks come as political campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.
