Guwahati, 06 March (HS): Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has reportedly been excluded from the ongoing opposition alliance discussions ahead of the upcoming elections in Assam.
According to political sources, senior Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain decided to keep Akhil Gogoi out of the latest round of talks related to opposition coordination in the state.
The Congress leadership is scheduled to hold a meeting today with Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Hill State Democratic Party (HSDP) leader JI Kathar and Anchalik Gana Morcha leader Manoranjan Talukdar to discuss possible electoral understanding and alliance strategies.
Notably, Akhil Gogoi has been strongly advocating for opposition unity in recent weeks, repeatedly urging the Congress to form an alliance to defeat the ruling BJP. However, the latest development indicates growing differences between the Raijor Dal leader and the Congress leadership over seat-sharing and political strategy.
Political observers believe that the exclusion of Akhil Gogoi from the meeting could further complicate the prospects of a broader opposition alliance in Assam ahead of the polls.---------
