Dibrugarh, 04 March (HS): A leopard was reportedly killed by an agitated mob in Duliajan on Wednesday following alleged inaction by the Forest Department despite repeated complaints from residents about the animal’s movement in the area.
For the past several days, multiple leopards had been freely roaming in localities such as Madhuting, Barkola and Tipling in Duliajan, creating panic among residents. Locals claimed that the movement of the wild animals had triggered fear and disrupted normal life in these areas.
According to residents, despite lodging several complaints and appeals to the Forest Department to capture the leopard, no concrete steps were taken to cage the animal. The situation eventually escalated, leading to a section of irate locals taking matters into their own hands, resulting in the leopard’s death.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over wildlife management and human-animal conflict in the region. Further details are awaited.-----------
