March (HS): Police here confiscated 1,028 cartons holding around 10,000 litres
of illegal liquor being smuggled from Punjab to Bihar in a truck and detained
the driver, an official said on Tuesday. Aditya Langhe, Superintendent of
Police, stated that the confiscated illicit booze is worth Rs 1.68 crore. He
claimed a combined squad from the Alinagar police station and the Special
Operations Group (SOG) was performing vehicle checks near the Singhitali bridge
on National Highway-19 in preparation for Holi when they stopped a
Rajasthan-registered truck. The driver attempted to leave with the vehicle, but
the police encircled and intercepted it, according to Langhe. During the
search, authorities discovered cartons of liquor concealed behind 30 bags of
potatoes and 50 sacks of rice husk piled onto the vehicle.
According to the authority, the boxes were labeled
for sale exclusively in Punjab. Mallaram (30), from Rajasthan's Barmer
district, has been identified as the accused. Police discovered Rs 1,200 in
cash and two mobile phones in his hands. According to authorities, the vehicle
has been confiscated under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and judicial
processes are ongoing.
