Bhubaneswar, 26 March (H.S.): The Government of Odisha on Thursday reassured citizens that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel in the state, urging people not to resort to panic buying amid concerns over fuel availability.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra stated that adequate stocks of essential fuels are being maintained and the situation remains well under control. He emphasized that sufficient reserves are available and there is no cause for alarm.

The clarification comes a day after the minister disclosed that around 14,000 domestic LPG cylinders are currently in reserve, compared to a daily requirement of nearly 2,000 cylinders. He assured that the existing stock is sufficient to meet demand and that supply is being managed efficiently.

Reiterating the government’s preparedness, Patra confirmed that there are no restrictions on LPG supply to the domestic sector, ensuring uninterrupted access for households across the state.

Addressing concerns from the hospitality sector, the minister said the government is capable of meeting up to 50 percent of the cooking gas requirements for hotels and restaurants. He added that efforts are ongoing to streamline supplies to commercial establishments, which had experienced disruptions in recent days.

To prevent misuse and ensure equitable distribution, enforcement measures have been intensified statewide. Authorities are conducting raids at multiple locations to curb illegal hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders.

The minister warned of strict action against those involved in such activities and said the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply of essential fuels.
