Guwahati, 26 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made sharp remarks regarding alleged links of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi with Pakistan, triggering fresh political controversy in the state.
Addressing the issue last night, the Chief Minister questioned the omission of information in the election affidavit, alleging that Gogoi’s wife’s bank account in Pakistan was not disclosed in the sworn statement. He termed the matter serious and demanded clarification.
Taking a further jibe, Sarma remarked that while the Congress may not form a government in Assam, it “could do so in Pakistan,” intensifying the war of words between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress ahead of the elections.
The Congress party has not yet issued an official response to the Chief Minister’s allegations.----------
