Kolkata, 24 March (H.S.) : Amid intensifying preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin arrived in Kolkata on Tuesday morning on a two-day visit to review the party’s organisational readiness and electoral strategy.

According to party sources, Nabin is scheduled to attend a crucial core committee meeting of the state BJP at a hotel in New Town. The meeting is expected to focus on election strategies across key organisational zones, including Kolkata and its adjoining regions. He is also likely to hold separate interactions with the party’s information technology cell, social media team and campaign narrative unit as part of efforts to streamline the party’s outreach ahead of the polls.

The visit assumes significance as the BJP has already announced two phases of its candidate list for the West Bengal Assembly elections, while candidates for 39 constituencies are yet to be declared. Polling in the state is scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29.

The announcement of candidates has, however, triggered discontent among sections of party workers in several constituencies. Reports of protests, vandalism and clashes have emerged from some areas, with disgruntled workers alleging that the selection of certain candidates could end up benefiting rival political parties.

Recently, a group of party workers staged demonstrations outside the BJP’s Salt Lake office, raising objections to the candidate selection process in at least six Assembly constituencies. Amid the unrest, the state BJP leadership has conveyed a strong message that the party’s decisions regarding candidates are final and described the protests as unexpected.

Sources also indicated that a key meeting was recently held at the New Delhi residence of senior BJP leader Jagat Prakash Nadda to finalise the remaining candidates, with the next list likely to be announced soon.

During his visit, Nabin is also expected to review preparations related to the party’s election manifesto, titled “Sankalp Patra”. Party insiders suggested that the manifesto may be released later this month, possibly in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

With election dates already announced and political activities gathering pace across the state, Nabin’s visit is being seen as a significant move aimed at consolidating the BJP’s campaign strategy and strengthening organisational cohesion ahead of the crucial electoral battle.
