
Howrah, 23 March (H.S.): The body of a youth was recovered from a waterlogged pit in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Monday, the police said.
The incident took place in the Dewan Chak area under Nishchinda gram panchayat in Domjur block, where locals spotted the body lying face down in stagnant water amid bushes near a roadside stretch.
As the news spread, a large number of people gathered at the spot, creating a commotion. The pit is located close to a busy road and surrounded by residential areas.
The police from Nishchinda police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which has been sent for post-mortem.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, especially in the backdrop of the ongoing election atmosphere in the state.
The police said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.
