Kolkata, 14 March (H.S.): Eastern Railway has decided to introduce a new EMU local train between Tarakeswar and Sheoraphuli to meet a long-standing demand of commuters, railway sources said.

The service will begin from Monday, they said.

According to railway officials, the train will depart from Tarakeswar at 10.05 am and reach Sheoraphuli at 10.53 am. On the return journey, it will leave Sheoraphuli at 11 am and arrive at Tarakeswar at 11.50 am.

The train will halt at all stations along the route for the convenience of passengers.

An Eastern Railway official said a large number of commuters travel daily on the Tarakeswar–Howrah section and the pressure on local trains on this route has been increasing steadily.

The additional service has been introduced to ease congestion on the line, the official added.

Local traders welcomed the move, saying many small businessmen travel from Tarakeswar to the Sheoraphuli market with goods such as potatoes and puffed rice, while others bring vegetables from the market back to Tarakeswar.

They said overcrowding during peak hours often makes it difficult to carry goods on trains and the new service is expected to provide some relief.

Regular commuters also said the new train between Tarakeswar and Sheoraphuli would make travel easier for passengers.
