Kolkata, 10 March (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken charge of the state’s Law Department. The development was announced in a notification issued late Monday night by the state’s Home and Hill Affairs Department.
According to the notification, following a revised allocation of business, the Chief Minister has assumed charge of the Law Department. The portfolio was earlier held by minister Moloy Ghatak, who will now be responsible only for the Labour Department.
Ghatak had so far been handling both the Labour and Law departments.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Babul Supriyo will no longer continue as a member of the state cabinet after his recent election to the Rajya Sabha. With his exit, the departments of Information Technology, Industrial Reconstruction and Public Enterprises, which were under his charge, have fallen vacant.
A state secretariat official said these portfolios will temporarily remain with the Chief Minister until a fresh allocation is made.
The official added that the state government is expected to announce a formal decision on the reallocation of these departments soon.
