Hyderabad, 4 February (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday accused Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of taking appeasement politics to an extreme and alleged that the Congress government was undermining Telugu language, culture and Sanatan traditions.

Addressing a convention of party workers in Mahabubnagar to launch the BJP’s campaign for the February 11 municipal elections, Nabin said the state government was prioritising vote-bank politics over public welfare. He referred to the Chief Minister’s earlier remarks linking Congress with a particular community and said such statements hurt the country’s cultural ethos and social harmony.

The BJP president alleged that the Congress government functioned only for minority appeasement and had little concern for the people of Telangana or Telugu-speaking communities. He claimed that the Wakf Board in the state had emerged as one of the richest in the country, owning vast tracts of land, which he said reflected misplaced government priorities.

Nabin asserted that BJP workers would strongly oppose what he described as minority appeasement politics. He also alleged that temples had come under attack or vandalism during the Congress rule and said Sanatan Dharma remained central to India’s identity. Warning the ruling party, he said any insult to religious traditions or restrictions on Hindu festivals would not be tolerated.

Highlighting women welfare, Nabin said while the Prime Minister was working to economically empower women through self-help groups, the Congress government in Telangana had failed to fulfil its promise of providing monthly financial assistance to poor women.

He further alleged that the current government was continuing the practices of the previous regime, claiming that corruption and illegal collections remained rampant despite the change in power. Farmers, SCs, STs and OBCs had been deceived, he said, as key welfare schemes promised by Congress were yet to be implemented.

Referring to infrastructure development, Nabin said announcements related to rail projects and other initiatives reflected the Centre’s commitment to Telangana’s growth. He urged party workers to strengthen booth-level organisation and aim to significantly increase the BJP’s vote share in the state.

Calling on party cadres to work towards the 2028 Assembly elections, Nabin said the BJP’s fight was not merely for power but for safeguarding Telangana’s future. Party leaders expressed confidence that his visit would energise workers and improve the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming municipal polls.
