
Nagpur, 28 Feb
(HS): With the Holi festival three days away the Department of Revenue Intelligence,
Nagpur Unit seized 1,250 km of Ganja (Marijuana) from two operations, from an
inter-state drug smugglers’ gang on Friday. The narcotics were being smuggled
fro Odisha to different parts of North India via Nagpur, The mastermind of the gang
was also nabbed by Nagpur Police.
In the first
operation a Bolero pick-up van was intercepted leading towards Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan
border from POdisha-Andhra Pradesh border. Police recovered 729 kg of Ganja in
142 packets concealed under the raw ginger cargo. The value of the Ganja seized
is about Rs 3.64 crore. Police also seized the vehicle and an offence under the
NDPS Act was registered. One of the two people arrested in this connection was
the mastermind of the racket. He was involved in many cases and was reported
absconding as per police records.
In another
operation DRI intercepted a truck travelling from Odisha, at Bhaigimahari Toll
Plaza ion the National Higway No, 17 and seized 522 packets of ganja in 100
pachets concealed below the cargo of coolers, table fans and blankets. The
value of the seized Ganja is Rs 2.61 crore. Two people were arrested in this
connection.
MD Peddler held: A team of Wathoda Police in Nagpur seized 15 gm of
Mephedrone (MD) from a drug peddler Sachin Wasnik (49) in Darshan Colony. He
was carrying the narcotic drug on his two-wheeler. The drug and the vehicle
seized are worth Rs 2,34,440.
