Goalpara (Assam), 2 November (HS): Members of the Kalita community staged a protest and blocked the National Highway at Agia in Assam’s Goalpara district on Monday, opposing the Assam Land and Revenue Amendment Bill, 2026.

A large number of people took to the streets and blocked the highway to press for the protection of their land rights. The protesters expressed their opposition to the proposed amendment and raised demands concerning the land rights of the Kalita community.

The highway blockade disrupted vehicular movement in the area, causing inconvenience to commuters. The protest was organised under the banner of the Kalita Janagosthi Sanmilan.-------------
