Hailakandi (Assam), 31 October (H.S.): The Assam Agriculture Department has suspended Hailakandi District Agriculture Officer Manoj Kumar Baishya following allegations of negligence in the farmers' registration process. The department has also ordered a departmental inquiry against him.
The action comes days after five Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs) of the district were suspended over alleged irregularities and negligence in the registration of farmers.
Following the suspension of the five ADOs, the department has now taken action against the district-level officer, holding him accountable for the alleged lapses in the registration process.
The suspension order against Baishya was issued shortly after Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika's visit to Hailakandi. The departmental inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged negligence and establish accountability in the matter.----------
